Welcome to our church web site. We hope it will provide you with the information you need to know if
we might be the kind of church you are looking for. If we are, we hope you will join us soon for worship.
One of the things we say often is that, as a church, we have to go deeper in order to grow wider. This
means that spiritual growth is the foundation for growth in numbers and financial support. Without spiritual development,
numbers and money become idolatrous. That is why we devote attention to prayer, the practice of silence, Bible
study, and personal retreats as tools for spiritual growth.
Spirit of Joy is a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). To learn more
about our denomination, click on http://www.disciples.org. What all our congregations have in common is a willingness to welcome diversity rather than simply
tolerating it. We encourage open and honest discussion on all issues, whether they be theological, social, or political.
We do not believe differences have to become divisions. In fact, we think there is a need in the southern metro of the Twin
Cities for a church where people can be free to explore faith issues without being constrained by narrow dogma and rigid doctrine.
We are thoroughly committed to the Christian tradition, but we reject the notion that Christianity must condemn all other
religious traditions. A summary of the way we think is that we seek to be the people of God only, without claiming to be the
only people of God.

Our congregation supports ministries that promote justice, peace, and opening doors of opportunity for everyone. We are
also committed to working on how to be good stewards of the environment personally and as a church. We are focusing on actions
we can take such as making the transition to energy efficient lighting, using cloth napkins and grocery bags, and studying
ways we as a nation can be more conscious of our impact on the rest of the world.
We also believe strongly in being a community of learning as a church as we seek to love God with our minds as well as
our hearts and spirits. We believe faith and reason are complementary, not antagonistic. Our goal is to help one another see
the world through a well informed, balanced, and flexible Christian lens. And we are not afraid to have fun with one
another in the process.
We hope you will visit us to see if we are who we say we are. Many people have done just that. The good news is that
you will meet them when you are here.
